The Beauty In Vintage Paintings By TS Harris

By Jeffrey Campbell

It is essential for an artist to find a style that represents their aesthetic that lets them express their thoughts and show their technical skill. Many of the best ones have made a mark out of the style that hey have developed. This has been true for many centuries now. The point of creating these pieces can vary depending on what the painter is trying to convey.

The great thing about recent and contemporary artwork is how they show audiences a certain perspective of modern life. This is not something that can immediately be understood in a passing glance. TS Harris is one up and rising painter that has perfectly captured her thoughts, intentions and technique on a canvas.

The painter is the product of hard work, dedication and two parents that are both professional artists too. Her works are meant for different kinds of venues and proves that contemporary art is not meant to be lazy, purely conceptual or done for shock value. Essentially her subject and composition are based off of vintage women and aesthetic.

This artist have genius ways of using all the shades of blue which gives here work so much depth. Swimsuits, women with red lips by or in the swimming pool is a great depiction of iconic and nostalgic. The pieces are heavily inspired by mid century snaps. The blue and purple hues often used to render the shadows give off a very bittersweet and nostalgic feeling which has become the trademark in many of her pieces.

The main medium for the paintings is oil, which is a bit tricky to use but over all very satisfying, when done correctly. Her palette and color choices are part of her trademark, setting composition and subject aside. It is still very difficult to pull off your eyes from the different shades of blue that you can see used not only in still water but also the shadows. She has a penchant of using strokes expertly to show the illusion of detail.

The artist is based in Los Angeles and it may be evident in the sunny disposition of her work. But sunny does not necessarily mean that the work is essentially happy. In fact her concepts are all filled with mystery. This artist has a had a couple of gallery exhibits and their schedules are on available on her website.

Her works are big and are often done on 50x40 inch canvases. If you don't plan on having something as huge as this in your domain, there are prints available for sale. At sizes that range from 11x14, 16x20 and the largest in prints at 28x36 inches.

The composition and the story that these paintings tell are the most interesting thing about her work. Notice how the women are in most of her works and the positions that they take. Their body language and what they wear can tell you a thing or two about what their lifestyle maybe like and the stories they can tell.

Her way of manipulating colors and the seemingly geometric nature of her works are somehow like paintings by Edward Hopper, his more famous work being Nighthawks. Although Harris is a more close up version of the same vibe for the painting. She specially highlights the female figure in both an elegant and sensual manner.
