Williams was well known clergyman and an advocate of religious freedom. He was also famous as a founder of Rhode Island too. Mather was somehow similar to Roger especially he works as a clergyman too. In addition to that, he was also a writer. It was 1685 when he served and ordained as pastor during his fathers absence and demise. His movement, actions and works eventually became prominent for many years. He even served a certain period in government while doing his works as a writer.

Even as one of the non believers of trial, he published books which main focus concerns on satanic possession and such. In spite of this, he combined science with mysteries on his works. During his earlier years, Cotton greatly admired the heroic and bravery acts of Indian and a particular author who goes by the name of Mary Rowlandson. It was when his father made prefaces for her.

Williams reputation took a very long time before it finally emerged. During the year of 1702, a Puritan preacher who goes by the surname of Mather made a religious history which portrayed Williams as a dangerous persona and fanatic. From then on, he was considered as a mortal enemy by Puritans. Cotton even wrote a lot of negative things and ideas about such person.

Lots of other significant events occurred that derailed things and cause massive changes for so many years. Both individuals fought for what they think is right. Mather and Roger have fight so hard for their beliefs and political views making them enemy in the long run.
